ABOUT THE PROJECT
This October, girls from across the world will step into the shoes of political, social and economic leaders in a mass take over on International Day of the Girl. Together we will ensure girls are visible like never before and inspire others to join our global movement to ensure girls everywhere learn, lead, decide and thrive.
Unlock the power of girls
Securing the rights of girls and young women is a critical social justice issue of our time. In September 2015 Heads of State and Government adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, making historic and universally agreed commitments for girls and women. The commitments secured mean girls are more likely than ever before to realize all of their rights.
However, in many ways girls and young women remain invisible - absent from crucial data that could inform transformation solutions; absent from discussions on issues that impact their lives; absent from positions of power, decision making and leadership; absent in professions and activities thought to be acceptable only for men and boys; absent from political, social and economic spaces where their voices could create the transformation change needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Plan International envisions a world that values girls, promotes their rights and ends injustice. Through the global takeover on October 11th, we will change perceptions about what is possible for girls and highlight the power of working together to address the SDG targets.
