WHAT IS "RUSS", "RUSSEBUSS" AND "RUSSEFEIRING"?
The russefeiring (English: "russ celebration") is a traditional celebration for Norwegian high school students in their final spring semester. Students that take part in the celebrations are known as russ. The russefeiring traditionally starts on around 20 April and ends on 17 May, the Norwegian Independence day. The graduates wear red or blue overalls, and some go together in groups and buy and renovate a bus, car or van based on a concept they decide on. Most graduates celebrate almost continually during this period. Students who buy a bus (russebuss), party in this bus while a driver takes them around, all night before school the next day. This goes on from late April to the final day, May 17th.
